Navigator Logo

No matter what your destination, you’ll get there faster (and probably with fewer wrong turns) if you have directions, a map or—better yet—a personal guide.

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a go-to guide to navigate college? At SFCC, you do. It’s called the Navigator Advising program.

As soon as you have completed your enrollment checklist, we’ll pair you with a personal Student Success Navigator who will work with you one-on-one to help you plan your academic journey, stay on track for graduation and deal with obstacles along the way.

Your navigator will team up with faculty advisors and other staff to offer guidance and answer questions, like “Which program is right for me?” “What classes should I take?” and “Where can I get help if I need it?” Whatever your concerns, remember – your navigator is your go-to guide.

Check in with your navigator today, and set your course for success!

    • Academic
    • Personal
    • Career
  • Teach students about SFCC, community resources and technology as well as encourage consistent usage.
  • Assist students with decision making, problem solving challenges and overcoming barriers.
  • Teach students to utilize multiple methods of communication to self-advocate and foster self-confidence.
  • Help students develop soft skills to succeed in and out of the classroom.

Holistically, these objectives support SFCC Institutional Learning Outcomes for students.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Student Success Navigator?

Student Success Navigators are here to help you create and maintain an educational plan, enroll in classes and deal with life issues that could interfere with your ability to complete your education. Your navigator is your “go-to guide to success.” Students on all our campuses have navigators.

  • How do I find or locate my navigator?

Find out who your navigator is in mySFCC >> Academics >> Academic Profile or OKTA >> Starfish. View your Success Network in Starfish to find your navigator. You can contact or make an appointment with your navigator at any time to discuss educational plans, career paths and enrolling in classes.

  • Do I have more than one navigator if I have more than one major?

No. You’ll still be paired with just one navigator.

  • When is my navigator available, and how do I schedule a meeting?

Navigators are available on each campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Hours may vary by navigator to accommodate evening students.) To schedule a meeting, set an appointment in Starfish.

  • What can my navigator help me with?

Almost everything. Really! Navigators are trained to assist you with academic advising, enrolling in courses, degree planning, goal setting, scholarships, financial aid, campus and community resources, Canvas, Starfish, Campus Store and textbooks, payment plans, counseling referrals, and more.

  • Do I have to meet with my navigator to get enrolled in courses each semester?

Until you have earned 13 credit hours, you must work with a navigator to enroll. After you have earned 13 credit hours, you can enroll yourself in courses each semester, but we still encourage you to meet with your navigator to make sure you’re taking the courses required for your specific certificate or degree.

  • What if I’ve already been working with an advisor or faculty member on selecting and enrolling in courses?

You’re welcome to continue working with advisors and faculty who have helped you in the past. However, it’s still a good idea to contact and get to know your navigator. Your personal “go-to guide” can be another great resource to help you navigate college and answer questions about courses or programs.
