Sedalia, Missouri – March 6, 2024 – The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present instrumental and vocal concerts on separate nights. The Jazz and Concert bands will perform at 7 p.m. March 12. The Contemporary and Chamber Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. March 14 and will be accompanied by pianist Cheryl McCollester. Both events will take place in Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. Admission to both concerts is free on a first come, first served basis.  

  SFCC instructor Joe Schreimann will direct the Jazz and Concert bands on March 12. The Jazz Band performance will feature five selections that include “Come Out Swingin,’” written by Larry Neeck, “Come Sail Away,” composed by Dennis DeYoung, arranged by Paul Murtha, “Basin Street Blues,” by Spencer Williams, “Satin Doll,” by Duke Ellington, arranged by Michael Sweeney, and Mike Steinel’s “Song for San Miguel.”   

 The Concert Band will perform E. E. Bagley’s patriotic “National Emblem,” “Blessed Are They (From A German Requiem),” by Johannes Brahms, arranged by Barbara Buehlman, “Overcome,” by Bill Locklea, and ageless recognizable classics like “Kentucky 1800” by Clare Grundman and “The Lion King,” by Elton John, Tim Rice, Hans Zimmer, arranged by John Higgins.  

 On March 14, SFCC’s Contemporary and Chamber Choirs, directed by Dr. Christopher Kindle, will be accompanied by Cheryl McCollester. The Contemporary Choir will perform four songs, and the Chamber Choir will perform five. Selections will range from “Pure Imagination,” a classic from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” to the celebratory poem by Craig Carnahan, “Armistice 1918 (Everyone Sang).”
