Treaka N. Young, director of State Fair Community College’s (SFCC) Jefferson City campus, was honored with the Trailblazer Award at the Jefferson City NAACP’s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast and Founders Program. The event, held at McClung Park on Jan. 20, celebrated Dr. King’s legacy by recognizing outstanding community members who embody his vision.

Young was among several local leaders recognized for their contributions to the community. The award highlights her commitment to education and leadership, further strengthening SFCC’s presence in Jefferson City. “This achievement contributes to positive visibility, which is beneficial for our marketing and strengthens awareness of SFCC’s presence in the community,” said Young.

The breakfast brought together residents, leaders, and officials to reflect on Dr. King’s impact. Nimrod Chapel Jr., former president of the NAACP Jefferson City Branch and current Missouri state conference president, spoke about his decade-long tenure and its alignment with Dr. King’s vision. The event concluded with an uplifting message of unity from Missouri Capital Women’s Caucus President Dr. Ayanna Shivers.

In addition to receiving the Trailblazer Award, Young recently joined the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Her involvement in the chamber further reinforces SFCC’s dedication to community engagement and workforce development in the region.
