Active Duty Military & Veterans Checklist

 

❑ Apply for your education benefit 

  • For VA education benefits- Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606 and 1607, apply online at www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/.
  • If you have any questions about which benefit to choose call the VA Hotline at 1-888-442-4551.
  • For Military Tuition Assistance (Mil TA), service members should talk to their Education Services Office, Educational Services Officer, or counselor within your military service.

❑ Complete an SFCC Admission Application online

  • Provide your official military transcripts and/or transcripts from other institutions.
  • Provide your placement test scores (ACT, ACCUPLACER, SAT, Guided Self-Placement, etc.) if applicable.
  • Submit your military certification form if you are out of state or a foreign resident.

❑ Apply for Federal Student Aid (studentaid.gov) and SFCC Scholarships

  • Log onto your mySFCC account and check the Financial Aid section for red flags, review your College Financial Plan and apply for student loans.
  • Check the Financial Aid resource section for scholarship opportunities and applications.
  • Check your student email for messages about your financial aid or scholarships.

❑ Submit Your Certificate of Eligibility And Sign The Memorandum Of Understanding (VA MOU)

  • For VA education benefits submit your Certificate of Eligibility to the Financial Aid and Veteran Services Office or to the Whiteman Air Force Base State Fair office. You can also email your Certificate of Eligibility to VETERANS@SFCCMO.EDU.
  • VA education benefit recipients will need to sign and submit a copy of the VA Student MOU. This is available in Financial Aid, by email, and online.
  • For Army and National Guard Tuition Assistance notify the Business Office of your approval and provide your schedule. For Active Duty Air Force, the Business Office will retrieve your information once it has been signed/approved by your Educational Services Officer.

❑ Meet with your Navigator to register for classes.  Who’s my Navigator?

  • A Navigator is your personal resource to help guide you through your program of education and will help you enroll in classes.
  • Log onto your mySFCC account and on the Home Page select the Starfish icon to see your assigned Navigator and schedule an appointment.
  • Submit your Veteran Certification Form! After registering for classes log into your mySFCC account and select Academics. Under I need to…select “Submit Veteran Certification Form”. This form will need to be submitted each semester you want to use VA education benefits.

❑ Check your mySFCC account, Pay My Bill section to see if you have a balance due.

  • If you are receiving education benefits under Chapter 31 (VA VR&E) or Chapter 33 (Post 9/11), the VA will pay your tuition and fees directly to SFCC. Students with Chapter 30, 35, 1606, and 1607 education benefits will be responsible for paying SFCC directly.
