Is This Program Right for Me?
The program offers a Skills Certificate, a Professional Certificate and an AAS degree. The Skills Certificate will prepare you to take the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Board Examination to achieve CPhT designation. The CPhT is a nationally recognized certification and is required in some states.
The Professional Certificate and AAS degree include additional courses. You can complete one certificate and enter the workforce, and then continue your education and boost your employability when you’re ready.
Pharmacy technicians do much of the routine day-to-day work in a pharmacy. Typical responsibilities include taking incoming prescription requests, filling prescriptions, explaining the proper use of medications to customers, and filling out paperwork. Common skills and abilities needed include concern for others; written, oral and reading comprehension skills; excellent near vision and attention to detail; problem-solving skills; active listening skills; and the ability to assess and prioritize work.
Occupational Outlook
Job opportunities are projected to increase faster than the average for all occupations due to increased demand for prescription medications. Jobs are available in hospital, clinic, long-term care, and home health care pharmacies; retail pharmacies; and mail-order prescription pharmacies. Salaries range from $20,700 to $26,800.
