SFCC has many talented faculty and staff who believe personal attention and innovative teaching techniques are the best way to reach students and address their personal educational goals.

Since 1988, the Student Government Association each year has recognized and honored a full-time faculty member who exhibits excellent teaching skills and dedication to student success. The award now also includes adjunct faculty and staff.

Each year the student body nominates and recognizes a full-time faculty  member, an adjunct faculty member and a staff member for their excellence in teaching and support of SFCC students.

2026 Winners

State Fair Community College announced in April the 2026 Instructor, Adjunct and Staff Member of the Year recipients. Pictured (left to right): Greg Harrell, Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year; Angie Gentry, Instructor of the Year; and Brandon Hammond, Staff Member of the Year.

Angie Gentry, a mathematics instructor, was named SFCC’s 2026 Instructor of the Year. Students praised Gentry for transforming fear into confidence and creating a supportive learning environment. One student said she helped them overcome a decade-long fear of math, enabling success later in life. Others cited her clear explanations, dedication beyond the classroom and consistent support.

Brandon Hammond, a TRiO Student Success coach, was named SFCC’s 2026 Staff Member of the Year. Students recognized Hammond for providing exceptional support and creating a welcoming, safe environment where they feel valued and encouraged. Nominations highlighted his patience, positivity and commitment to helping students succeed, often going above and beyond his role.

Greg Harrell, a criminal justice adjunct instructor, was named SFCC’s 2026 Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year. Students commended Harrell for his personalized feedback, responsiveness and genuine care for student success. Many said his thoughtful comments and encouragement helped them feel seen and capable, while his accessibility made a meaningful difference in their academic experience.

All honorees received plaques, and their photos will be displayed in the Yeater Learning Center lobby on the Sedalia campus. They will wear a special sash and lead the procession of faculty and staff at commencement.
