Sedalia, Missouri  Oct. 4, 2022 – The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present “Heathers: The Musical” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-15 and 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. A dinner theatre will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15.

This musical is based on the 1980s film “Heathers” that depicts a troubling social situation for Veronica Sawyer in her senior year at a school that seems to be ruled by a clique of like-thinking classmates known as “the Heathers.” Daniel Waters adapted the film to the stage with lyrics and music by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe. SFCC Theatre Arts Program Coordinator Ryan P. Mahannah is the director; Jan Turley is the music director, and Torrie Shelly is choreographer.

Because of the explicit content of this production, audience members must be 17 years or older to be admitted. Anyone under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 25. This production does depict scenes of bulling, suicide, murder (including the use of live gunfire), sexual assault, and alcohol use.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at sfcctheatre.evenbrite.com or by calling the Box Office at (660) 530-5814 from 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. SFCC students and employees may reserve tickets at no-cost in the Box Office. Attendees over 60 years may get a free ticket to the 2 p.m. performances on Oct. 16.  Wheelchair seating is available upon request. For special accommodations, email Mahannah at rmahannah@sfccmo.edu.
