Sedalia, Missouri – Oct. 9, 2023 – The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present its fall instrumental and vocal concerts on separate nights. The Concert and Jazz Bands will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 10. The Chamber and Contemporary Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 12. Both events will take place in Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. Admission to both concerts is free on a first come, first served basis. 

SFCC instructor Joe Schreimann will direct the Concert and Jazz Bands on Oct. 10. The Concert Band performance features five compositions: “Flourish for Wind Band” by R. Vaughn Williams; “Wanderlust” by Erin Keeton-Howard; “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David Holsinger; “Danny Elfman: Music in the Dark” by Danny Elfman, and “The Thunderer” by John Philip Sousa. The Jazz Band will perform: “All of Me” by Simons and Marks; “Splanky” by Neal Hefti; “Norwegian Wood (This Bird has Flown) by Lennon and McCartney, and “Coastin’” by Beasley.  

SFCC Music Arts program coordinator and instructor Dr. Christopher Kindle will direct the Chamber and Contemporary Choirs on Oct. 12. Cheryl McCollester is the accompanist, and Russ Schupp is the percussionist. The choirs will perform songs that offer a variety of music such as “What a Wonderful World,” “Flowers,” and “A Little Less Conversation” to formal, classical compositions such as “Ad Astra (To the Stars)” and “Where the Light Begins.”   

Students who participate in music arts at SFCC represent a wide range of majors from agriculture and health sciences to criminal justice and liberal arts. They come from many different communities and affirm the contributions music brings to a college education. Learning to read music, studying its history and mastering the mechanics of performance are experiences that can grow success in all career paths.
