GFL Environmental, a provider of waste collection, recycling and disposal services, last month donated $15,000 to the State Fair Community College Foundation in support of the new Steve and Karen Ellebracht Agriculture and Mechanics facility, where students began attending classes this fall.

The facility serves as a hub for workforce development programs including agricultural studies, commercial driving and commercial motor vehicle mechanics. GFL’s gift is helping enhance training opportunities for students pursuing careers that align with the company’s values and industry

“At GFL, we believe in supporting the communities where we live and work,” said Joshua Tanner, General Manager at GFL’s Central Missouri Landfill in Sedalia. “This donation is an investment in the next generation of skilled workers—people who will help drive agriculture, transportation, and infrastructure forward in Missouri.”

State Fair Community College Foundation Executive Director Mary Treuner said GFL’s donation demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships to improve access to high-quality technical education.

“We’re incredibly grateful to GFL for their support of our agriculture and mechanics programs,” Treuner said. “Because classes are already underway, these funds are directly helping us provide students with the hands-on training and real-world experience they need to thrive in high-demand fields.”

About GFL Environmental

GFL, headquartered in Vaughan, Ontario, is the fourth largest diversified environmental services company in North America, providing a comprehensive line of solid waste management services through its platform of facilities throughout Canada and in 18 U.S. states. Across its organization, GFL has a workforce of more than 15,000 employees.

GFL operates the Central Missouri Landfill (CML) in Sedalia, which employs 60 individuals. Besides the landfill staff, the location also houses a hauling operation with a fleet of 18 trucks and the drivers, mechanics, engineers, and other support staff needed to service residential and commercial customers.

Last month, GFL also began production at the company’s first Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility at CML in Sedalia. That $45 million facility, the first built by the GFL Renewables division, now captures and processes harmful landfill gas emissions and converts them for beneficial reuse. Currently, the CML plant creates pipeline-quality natural gas that provides renewable energy to power 10,000 households per day.

Local GFL staff are proud of the trash and recycling service they provide to area residents and businesses and the relationships they have built in the community.
