CLINTON—Students seeking a Professional Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assistant at the State Fair Community College-Clinton campus need to complete the application process by March 1 to begin the program August 21. Admission to the program is on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis.
Classes are held in Clinton and online. Clinicals are conducted at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare sites and other ambulatory sites.

Skills and abilities needed for this program include excellent written, oral and reading comprehension; active listening; care and compassion for patients and coworkers; clerical and computer knowledge; attention to detail; and accuracy handling information; and integrity.

Medical assistants typically prepare patients and treatment rooms for clinical exams; interact with clients; assist practitioners with exams; take and record vital signs and medical information; help with injections as directed by a primary care provider; handle patient billing and bookkeeping tasks; work with electronic medical records; and coordinate appointments, among other tasks.

March 1 also is the application deadline for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, general and cardiac tracks, Radiologic Technology, and Dental Hygiene programs that start August 21. The application deadline for Year One Nursing program that meets on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting June 5 is March 1. The application deadline for Year One and Two Nursing programs that start Aug. 21 is May 1. The application deadline for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program class of 2018 is May 31.
