Sedalia, Missouri – On March 3, when State Fair Community College will be closed for an employee professional development day, the college’s Campus Safety and Security and local law enforcement will conduct an intruder/active shooter drill. The drill is scheduled to occur 9-11 a.m. in the Yeater Learning Center on the Sedalia campus.

A plainclothes officer will take on the role of the intruder with a firearm and will search through Yeater as though he is looking for a particular target. Once campus locks down and law enforcement is contacted, county deputies and first responders will encounter the “suspect” and neutralize the threat. SFCC employees will participate in the drill as students, faculty or staff.

During the drill, dummy rounds from a gun will be fired; lockdown announcements will be made over the college’s internal public announcement system and through SFCC Alert text and email messages. Law enforcement personnel will arrive and proceed accordingly as they would in an emergency.

The State Fair Career and Technology Center (SFCTC) that provides technical training for area high school students will hold regular morning and afternoon sessions on March 3. The SFCTC students and employees will not be involved in the drill.

The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus will be open its regular hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will not be affected by the drill.
