Following a months-long process, State Fair Community College (SFCC) has launched the implementation and communication of “Connecting College and Community,” its newest strategic plan.
A planning team of college members used internal and external information and resources along with public feedback to select four future scenarios identifying them as “transformational concepts.” The four concepts are community hub; seamless K-12 relationships; work, learn, thrive; and comprehensive support for student success.
Dr. Brent Bates, SFCC president, said the strategic plan is already allowing SFCC to meaningfully connect the college and the communities it serves.
“These bold and far-reaching concepts are the driving forces that have guided the development of overarching objectives and annual goals to help us maintain our focus on the future,” he said. “The plan’s strength is rooted in being adaptable in addressing the diverse and changing needs of the college and the people we serve in a large service region.”
Implementing the Community Hub concept, Bates said SFCC is hosting a series of town hall meetings across the region.
“These information sessions are designed to strengthen the college as central and vital hubs in each community,” he said. “We want to hear from the people we serve about services, programs, and events that will benefit their community and how we can partner to help people thrive. We will also provide information and answer questions about SFCC’s operations levy proposal on the November ballot.”
Town hall meetings will continue this month on Oct. 8 in Cole Camp; Oct. 9 in Warsaw; Oct. 13 in Hughesville; Oct. 14 in Sedalia; Oct. 15 in Otterville; and Oct. 22 in Green Ridge.
“We’re excited about hearing from people at these meetings and how those conversations will help shape our future,” Bates said. “Not only do we want to be a provider of education, a trusted partner, and a regional problem-solver, we want to be fully woven into the fabric of the communities we serve and be a place where lives are changed.”
