State Fair Community College’s Business program students and Phi Beta Lambda members will hold their 14th annual Hire Attire professional clothing sale for students and the community April 18-20 in the Thompson Conference Center in the Heckart Science and Allied Health Center on the Sedalia campus.
“Hire Attire helps our students build a work wardrobe or simply purchase clothes for every day,” said Laura Taylor, Hire Attire Committee chair. “Many college students live on tight budgets, which makes it difficult for them to acquire appropriate clothing for interviews and the workplace. Hundreds of SFCC students have been able to purchase affordable, quality clothing for job interviews, the workplace and even graduations, weddings, and other special occasions.
“Students also benefit from the sale by developing organizational and leadership skills. Phi Beta Lamda students help organize and conduct the sale. In addition to developing a video and a social media presence, Marketing and Human Relations students help set up the sale and coordinate the fashion show with some serving as models.”
Proceeds from the sale are used in two ways to support students. One $500 Hire Attire Award is given to a graduating AAS student to buy clothing or technology tools. The remaining funds are added to an endowed scholarship fund that is awarded to a student for fall.
An outdoor fashion show by students modeling clothing from the sale will be at noon on Lamm’s Landing in front of the Stauffacher Center for the Fine Arts. In case of inclement weather, the show will be in Yeater Center lobby.
The Hire Attire student-only sale will be from 12:30-4:30 p.m. April 18. From 4:30-7 p.m. students and employees-only can shop. The sale opens to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 19 and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 20 in the Thompson Conference Center.
Each item will cost $2 on April 18, 19, and $1 on April 20. The sale features jackets, slacks, shirts, ties, blouses, skirts, suits, dresses, sweaters, shoes, purses, and accessories. For every 10 items purchased, customers can enter drawings for $50 gift cards throughout the sale. Fifteen winners will be drawn, and they do not need to be present to win.
