My first semester at State Fair Community College was the Summer 2021 semester, so if this is your first semester coming up, or if you’ve been here for a bit, but haven’t taken summer classes yet, I want to let you know what it’s like. The summer semester at SFCC is basically like the fall and spring semesters, but a lot more quiet, with emptier hallways, and less students. You won’t be running into people as you turn corners in the summer. The summer is just a cool down time for everyone, student and faculty alike, and it’s a good time to do the things that you didn’t have time to do when you were more busy in the fall or spring, or if you’re new to SFCC, then you can get familiar with the campus for the first time, and without people all over the place as a bonus. I started both my student career and work-study job in the summer of 2021, so I was able to learn about locations on campus in a much less hectic environment. Though I tend to lean more towards places without large crowds, I have to admit that during the fall and spring, with hundreds of students walking around every day, it just feels more like the idea of “college” that I have in my head; however, that is not to say that the summer semester will be bad, or that I didn’t enjoy it, but rather that it’s different, and you should know that if you’re going to be taking classes this summer. Again, that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just different. How different it ends up being will be unique to you, because all of our experiences are different. With that, it’s a given that what I’ve experienced is different than what you are going to experience, so just take what you want, and as always, do your best.

My time as a freshman at SFCC is coming to an end, and I have had a great time at this place for the past eleven months, I hope that these blogs have helped you to learn about our college, and I hope that I can help you to grow as I grow in the upcoming academic year.

About the Author
Howdy! I‘m Webster, and I am a new student here at State Fair Community College. I have lived in Sedalia for nearly all my life, and I am working towards an AA Transfer degree from SFCC. When I transfer, I want to major in Criminal Justice. I am a new work-study at Student Success, and I am also a Trio student. I consider myself a very approachable person, and maybe through these blogs I can show that to be true. I hope these blogs can provide some practical advice from a new student to other new students and help you to succeed on your SFCC journey. If at all possible, I hope that these blogs can also help returning students as well, and maybe you can help me learn too!
