Receive Emergency Notifications with SFCC Alert
SFCC uses SFCC Alert to notify students, employees, affiliates, and subscribers about campus closures, delayed openings, severe weather, and other emergency situations.
Notifications are sent by text message and email to help keep the college community informed as quickly as possible.
What Are Remote Operations?
When conditions make it unsafe or impractical to access campus, SFCC may transition to Remote Operations instead of canceling classes and services.
During Remote Operations:
- Campus buildings are closed and inaccessible to most students and employees.
- Classes continue through alternative instructional methods, such as video conferencing, online instruction, or other formats determined by the instructor.
- Most campus offices and services remain available remotely through email, phone, or virtual meetings.
Students should refer to their course syllabus for information about how their classes will operate during Remote Operations.
Clinical and Workforce Programs
Students participating in clinical experiences should continue to follow the expectations of their clinical site and instructor. Remote Operations may not affect clinical schedules, and students should contact both their instructor and clinical site if weather or other conditions create questions about attendance.
How SFCC Decides to Close a Campus
Student, employee, and visitor safety is always our highest priority.
When evaluating whether to close a campus or adjust operations, the college carefully considers factors such as:
- Weather forecasts and current conditions
- Road and highway conditions
- Parking lot and sidewalk safety
- Availability of snow and ice removal
- The expected duration and severity of the weather event
Because SFCC does not build "snow days" into the academic calendar, decisions to close campuses are made only after carefully evaluating these and other relevant factors.
When Are Closure Decisions Announced?
Whenever possible, SFCC follows these timelines for announcing weather-related closures:
- By 9 p.m. for potential next-day closures when conditions are known in advance.
- By 5:30 a.m. for day and evening classes if a decision is made the morning of the event.
- By 3 p.m. if daytime classes are in session but evening classes or events (beginning at 5 p.m. or later) need to be canceled.
Weekend day and evening events are evaluated separately, and announcements are made as conditions warrant.
Campus Conditions May Vary
Weather and other circumstances can affect campus locations differently.
A closure or delay at the Sedalia campus does not automatically mean extended campus locations are also closed. Likewise, an extended campus may close independently while other locations remain open.
Always refer to the campus status table at the top of this page for the latest information about your specific location.
If your extended campus has canceled classes or adjusted operations, please contact that campus directly for additional information.
Winter Weather Safety Tips
Even when campuses remain open, winter weather can create hazardous conditions.
Please remember to:
- Allow extra travel time.
- Use caution in parking lots and on sidewalks.
- Wear appropriate winter footwear and clothing.
- Watch for icy surfaces and refreezing conditions.
- Use your best judgment when deciding whether it is safe to travel.
If weather conditions prevent you from safely reaching campus, notify your instructor or supervisor as soon as possible.
