The Disability Resource Center (DRC) at State Fair Community College is committed to providing equal access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities. We work with students to coordinate reasonable accommodations, improve accessibility, and create an inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.

Our mission is to facilitate effective accommodations, promote equal access and opportunity, continually improve accessibility, and educate our campus and surrounding communities about disability awareness and inclusion.

Whether you're a new student or a returning student with changing needs, we're here to help you access the support and resources you need to reach your educational goals.

 

How the Disability Resource Center Can Help

The Disability Resource Center provides reasonable accommodations for students whose disabilities have been verified by a licensed medical or psychological professional.

Accommodations are designed to provide equal access to educational opportunities by helping level the learning environment. Every student's needs are unique, and accommodations are determined on an individual basis.

Accessible Campuses

State Fair Community College is committed to creating accessible learning environments across all campus locations.

Accessibility features include:

  • Automatic door openers
  • Elevators
  • Accessible restrooms

The Disability Resource Center coordinates accommodations in accordance with SFCC's Equal Education Opportunity regulations for students with disabilities.

 

Accommodations are individualized based on each student's documented disability and educational needs.

Examples of available accommodations may include:

  • Alternative testing locations
  • Modified testing arrangements
  • Test readers or scribes
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Note-taking assistance
  • Audio versions of textbooks
  • Lecture recording accommodations
  • Visual assistive technology
  • Closed-captioned media

Additional accommodations may be available based on individual circumstances.

Requesting accommodations is a straightforward process, and our staff is here to guide you every step of the way.

To begin receiving accommodations:

  1. Self-identify with the Disability Resource Center.
  2. Submit documentation from a licensed medical or psychological professional verifying your disability.
  3. Complete the required application paperwork.
  4. Meet with Disability Resource Center staff to discuss your accommodation needs.
  5. Review and sign your accommodation acceptance letter.

Once your accommodations are approved, the Disability Resource Center will notify your instructors of your approved accommodations.

To ensure accommodations are in place before classes begin, students are encouraged to complete the process at least two weeks before the first day of each semester.

Students should also meet with Disability Resource Center staff at the beginning of each semester to renew and implement accommodations.

Documentation should clearly identify your diagnosis and include relevant information about your disability history.

  • Fax
  • Hand delivery in a sealed envelope signed by the licensed professional across the seal
