Your Guide to College Success

Starting college comes with a lot of questions, but you don't have to figure it out on your own. At State Fair Community College, every student is paired with a Student Success Navigator who serves as their academic advisor and guide throughout their educational journey.

Once you've completed your enrollment checklist, your Navigator will work with you one-on-one to help you choose the right classes, explore academic and career goals, stay on track for graduation, and connect you with campus resources when you need them.

Working alongside faculty advisors and student support staff, your Navigator is here to help you succeed from your first semester through graduation.

How Your Navigator Can Help

Your Student Success Navigator can help you:

  • Develop an academic plan that supports your goals.
  • Select classes and prepare for registration.
  • Explore career and transfer pathways.
  • Connect with campus and community resources.
  • Overcome academic or personal challenges.
  • Build the confidence and skills needed for college success.

Find Your Navigator

You can find your assigned Navigator anytime by logging into OKTA and opening Starfish. Select your Success Network to view your Navigator's information, schedule an appointment, or get in touch with questions about your educational plans, enrollment, or next steps.

Your Navigator is your first stop for support at SFCC, helping you navigate college with confidence every step of the way.

Navigator FAQs

Student Success Navigators are here to help you create and maintain an educational plan, enroll in classes and deal with life issues that could interfere with your ability to complete your education. Your navigator is your “go-to guide to success.” Students on all our campuses have navigators.

Find out who your navigator is in mySFCC >> Academics >> Academic Profile or OKTA >> Starfish. View your Success Network in Starfish to find your navigator. You can contact or make an appointment with your navigator at any time to discuss educational plans, career paths and enrolling in classes.

No. You’ll still be paired with just one navigator.

Navigators are available on each campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours may vary by navigator to accommodate evening students. To schedule a meeting, set an appointment in Starfish.

Almost everything! Navigators are trained to assist you with academic advising, enrolling in courses, degree planning, goal setting, scholarships, financial aid, campus and community resources, Canvas, Starfish, Campus Store and textbooks, payment plans, counseling referrals, and more.

Until you have earned 13 credit hours, you must work with a navigator to enroll. After you have earned 13 credit hours, you can enroll yourself in courses each semester, but we still encourage you to meet with your navigator to make sure you’re taking the courses required for your specific certificate or degree.

You’re welcome to continue working with advisors and faculty who have helped you in the past. However, it’s still a good idea to contact and get to know your navigator. Your personal “go-to guide” can be another great resource to help you navigate college and answer questions about courses or programs.
