Program Overview
The MHPC MLT Program is a two-year program:
- Year One: Complete general education prerequisite courses (required before applying to the program)
- Year Two (Professional Year): After completing prerequisites, students may apply to the MHPC MLT Program. Upon acceptance and completion, students earn an Associate of Applied Science in MLT.
Our program is a consortium, offered through SFCC and five other community colleges all across Missouri.
Missouri Health Professions Consortium
Moberly Area Community College(MACC) is the housing institution for the MHPC MLT Program. Courses are delivered via MACC's learning management system, Canvas, and all program faculty are employed by MACC.
Program Expectations
- The MLT Program is full-time and academically rigorous
- It requires strong self-motivation and time management skills
- Students are encouraged not to work full-time due to the program's demands
- Success requires dedication to lectures, labs, clinical rotations, and study time
Transcript Audits & Credit Transfer
Students wondering if previous college credits will transfer should request a transcript audit from SFCC.
- Transcript audits are only completed after applying for admission to SFCC and submitting official transcripts.
- SFCC, your Home Campus will determine which credits transfer into the MLT program.
Prerequisite Courses
A list of required prerequisite courses can be found on our MLT Website. These requirements must be completed before beginning the professional year. Alternatively, you can refer to your home college column to view the specific prerequisites for each college.
Professional Year Details
- Duration: 3 semesters (Fall – 16 weeks, Spring – 16 weeks, Summer – 8 weeks)
- Start Date: Mid-to-late August
- End Date: End of July the following year
Application Timeline & Selection Criteria
MLT Application Window: Opens: Feb. 1
Deadline: May 15
Selection criteria include:
- GPA- 2.5 required of the prerequisite courses
- Completion of the required prerequisite courses
- Number of prerequisites completed at one of the 6-consortium colleges- Additional points on Application Score
- Number of prerequisites completed at the time of the application process- Additional points on Application Score
- Applications will be accepted while completing prerequisites during the spring and summer semesters prior to the start of the MLT Program.
- Job shadowing a MLT, MLS, CLS, or MT in a clinical laboratory setting- Additional points on Application Score
- Have taken the Phlebotomy Certification course at either MACC or SFCC- Additional points on Application Score
- Work or volunteer experience in a clinical laboratory
- Points removed if an application is incomplete or did not follow instructions

Estimated Cost of the MLT Program:
The estimated cost for the final year of the MLT program last year was $13,521.00. This amount reflects the expenses for the year in which students are officially admitted into the program and does not include the cost of prerequisite courses required for admission.
Accreditation
The MHPC Medical Laboratory Technician program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
Title IV and Licensure Information
The State Fair Community College Medical Laboratory Technician Program is designed to meet educational requirements for a professional license/certification in Medical Laboratory Technician required for employment as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Completion of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program meets educational requirements for licensure/certification in Missouri.
