SFCC's Strategic Plan for Becoming the Nexus of Education and Community
In 2025, SFCC launched a strategic planning process designed to transform both the college and the communities it serves. The college engaged more than 30 faculty and staff members in examining regional trends, workforce drivers, demographic shifts, and emerging challenges in higher education.
Through scenario development and community forums held across the service area, more than 200 stakeholders contributed input to help shape the college’s future direction, resulting in four Transformational Concepts that will guide SFCC’s evolution in the years ahead.
Community Hub
SFCC envisions its campuses as dynamic centers of connection, enrichment, and problem-solving. From expanded lifelong learning opportunities and experiential initiatives such as a teaching farm, to enhanced event and athletic facilities serving both campus and community needs, the college is strengthening its role as a regional convener. Students engage directly with local businesses, government, and arts organizations on real-world projects, while extended campuses continue to serve as responsive hubs tailored to the needs of their communities.
Seamless K-12 Relationships
The college is deepening partnerships with regional school districts to create clear, progressive pathways from early career exploration through postsecondary completion. Through sustained collaboration between K–12 educators and SFCC faculty, aligned curricula, dual credit expansion, youth programming, and innovative outreach—including support for homeschool families—SFCC is building a student-centered continuum that prepares learners for college, career, and lifelong success.
Work, Learn, Thrive
SFCC is committed to ensuring that every student graduates with both technical expertise and essential employability skills. Expanded earn-and-learn opportunities, embedded work-based experiences, short-term credential pathways, and digital portfolios documenting competencies and micro-credentials position students to enter or advance in the workforce with confidence. Real-world applications are increasingly integrated across disciplines and modalities.
Comprehensive Support for Student Success
Recognizing that access alone is not enough, SFCC is strengthening proactive systems of support that identify student needs early and connect learners with academic and community resources. Flexible scheduling, multiple delivery modalities, and interactive, career-relevant instruction are designed to remove barriers and expand opportunities for today’s diverse student population.
