Sedalia, Missouri  May 5, 2022 – State Fair Community College recently awarded JT Brown of Sedalia, Charles Davidson of Sedalia and Scott Manuel of Mora, students in SFCC’s Apprenticeship program, their Industrial Electrical Maintenance completion certificates. All three are employed at Stanley Black & Decker (SBD) in Sedalia.

Sarah Manuel, SFCC Apprenticeship coordinator, who presented the certificates to Brown, Davidson and Manuel at SBD, said, “We have worked very closely with Stanley Black & Decker, and are proud of these students’ accomplishments. We look forward to growing more apprenticeship partnerships in the communities we serve.”

The three participants spoke positively about their experience and the benefits of the program.

“Completing the apprenticeship has been a very rewarding accomplishment,” said Davidson. Stanley Black & Decker has invested in my future, and I am a better employee for it.”

Manuel said, “Through the hands-on learning of the State Fair Community College Industrial Electrical Maintenance program and the apprenticeship program, I was able to take my classroom work straight in to the workplace. This allowed the knowledge to ‘stick,’ which increased my productivity and has given me opportunities to work on bigger projects in the plant.”

Brown shared that the SFCC faculty and his Stanley Black and Decker team have done an amazing job to set them up with the knowledge and experience they needed to succeed.

“I had no experience in electrical maintenance and now feel comfortable approaching just about everything in our factory,” Brown said. “I’m now working on the Level 2 certifications in networking and robotics. I haven’t started on robotics yet, but the advanced PLC 5000s and the networking side has opened up so much more that I can do withing our facility … I definitely recommend the apprenticeship program. If you have no experience, it is a kick-starter into a great career. If you are already in the industry, it is going to help you hone the skills you have and help you learn new ones. “

Apprenticeship programs are for people of all ages who want to earn a salary while they learn and gain direct job skills. These programs offer employers the ability to strengthen and build their workforce and provide a tailored, high-quality talent pipeline.

SFCC currently offers the following registered apprenticeship programs: Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Precision Machining, Welding, Engineering Design Technology, Construction Management, Robotics and Automation Tech, Millwright, Commercial Driver’s License, First-Line Supervisor, Digital Media Marketing.
