April 06, 2017

State Fair Community College’s student art exhibition will open April 6 in the Goddard Gallery of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus. Admission is free.

A public reception and awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The show will continue through May 7.

The annual student exhibition is open to all students taking studio art classes at the college. Each year about 50 students exhibit close to 100 artworks in a variety of media.

Although every student is guaranteed a spot in the show, an invited juror will designate works of high merit for public recognition. This year’s juror is Douglass Freed, former art instructor at SFCC and retired director of the Daum Museum. Some students offer their artwork for sale.

SFCC President Dr. Joanna Anderson will purchase an artwork for the student art collection displayed on the college’s campuses.

SFCC offers an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree in Art that is designed to lay a foundation for upper-level class work and to establish a smooth transfer for SFCC graduates who may seek a bachelor’s degree in studio art at a four-year college or university. Courses include drawing, design, painting, ceramics, fiber, watercolor, sculpture, and art history.
