– State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce will offer these professional and enrichment courses in February.

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A Truck Driving Academy begins Feb. 4 and is a four-week program designed to train new truck drivers how to drive, the rules and regulations of the road and how to keep driving logs. Training time entails about 200 hours. Students must have a CDL permit and pass drug and health screenings before starting. Classes are held in Fielding Technical Center, Room 245. Upon completion, students will be prepared to earn a Class A CDL. Go to sfccmo.edu/cdl for details and application. Gary Willis is the instructor. The next four-week session starts March 4.
  • Yoga classes will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb. 5 for eight sessions in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or rug. Cost is $39; Irene Renauld is the instructor.
  • Yogalates, a fusion of yoga and Pilates, will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight sessions beginning Feb. 5 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. This class offers stretching and strengthening of all major muscles and calms the mind and spirit. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat. Cost is $39; Sue Guffin is the instructor.

A 15 percent discount is applied if enrolling in three or more yoga or Yogalates sessions at the same time prior to the start of class. Prime Time Learners, anyone over 60 years old, gets 10 percent off and PrimeMulti, anyone over 60 who registers for three classes, gets 24 percent discount.

  • Cole Camp 1861 Quilt is a new four-session class that starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 in Fielding Technology Center, Room 209. The other sessions are March 13, 27, and April 3. The class blends making a quilt that commemorates the June 1861 Civil War battle at Cole Camp and learning about local Civil War history. The quilt design is by Maralie Boushie of Viburnum, Missouri. The first 90-minute session will cover the supplies needed to complete the quilt, so participants need to bring only note-taking materials. During the other sessions, which last about three hours each, participants will use their personal sewing machines and hands-on skills to work on their quilts. Cost of the class is $69 (excluding material costs). Rebecca Schnakenberg is the instructor.
