April 13, 2022

Sedalia, Missouri April 13, 2022 – The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present the children’s musical “The SpongeBob Musical” at 7 p.m. April 21-23 and April 28-30 and at 2 p.m. April 24 and May 1. A character dinner theatre will be held at 6 p.m. April 23 and 30. Performances will take place in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

The musical is based on Nickelodeon’s number one children’s cartoon series, “SpongeBob SquarePants,” by Stephen Hillenburg from 1999 to 2016. Kyle Jarrow, award-winning author and musician, wrote the book for Broadway’s “The SpongeBob Musical,” for which he received a Tony nomination. Tina Landau developed the musical production of the book. SFCC’s Theatre Arts program coordinator Ryan P. Mahannah is the director, and Jan Turley is the musical director. Torrie Shelly is the choreography director.

The story finds SpongeBob and the citizens of Bikini Bottom in a struggle to save their undersea world from destruction. When it seems they are losing the battle, an unexpected, optimistic hero comes forward to save the day. Original songs by numerous artists such as Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, David Bowie, and others are a popular feature of the musical.

Tickets can be purchased online at evenbrite.com or by calling the Box Office at (660) 530-5814 from 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Tickets are $5 and seating is reserved. Tickets for the character dinner and performance on April 23 and 30 are $18. Seniors over 60 years may get a free ticket to the 2 p.m. performances on April 24 and May 1.  Wheelchair seating is available upon request.
