Sedalia, MissouriJan. 4, 2021 – The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present the children’s musical “James and the Giant Peach” Jan. 15-17 in Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7 p.m.; daytime performances on Saturday and Sunday begin at 2 p.m. Admission is free. This is the reschedule of the Nov. 20-22 performance that had to be postponed.

Roald Dahl’s wrote “James and The Giant Peach in 1961, and it has been a beloved children’s book ever since it was published. It tells the story of orphan James Henry Trotter who is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree. James discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendously huge peach. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach among human-sized insects with oversized personalities.

After the peach falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, James and his companions face hunger, sharks and conflict. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, everyone learns to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.

Admission is free; however, donations will be accepted at the door. Seating is first come, first served and limited to about 60 per show to allow for social distancing. Face coverings are required. For special accommodations, email Ryan Mahannah, Theatre Arts program coordinator, at rmahannah@sfccmo.edu.
