SEDALIA—Beginning this fall, State Fair Community College will offer an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree in Art, Music or Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

SFCC will be one of only two colleges in Missouri to offer an AFA, which provides concentrated study in art, music or theatre. The degree is designed to lay the foundation for upper-level class work and to establish a smooth transfer for SFCC graduates who may seek a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.

Also, effective for fall, the college has changed the names of several technical programs to reflect changes in business and industry.

The Construction Technology program is now Construction Management Technology.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) program is now Engineering Design Technology, and the Professional Certificate in CAD is now in Engineering Design Technology. The Skills Certificates in Architectural Drafting and Mechanical Drafting are now in Architectural Design and Mechanical Design.

Metals Technology-Machine Tool is now Manufacturing Technology with Emphasis in Precision Machining, and Metals Technology-Welding is now Manufacturing Technology with Emphasis in Welding Technology.

The Renewable Energy Technology program has been replaced with two programs—Industrial Technology with Emphasis in Biomass Energy and Industrial Technology with Emphasis in Solar Electric.

A new Skills Certificate in Programming will be offered at SFCC-Boonville.

SFCC also offers other transfer degrees—Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching and Associate of Science in Chemistry or Engineering—plus more than 35 Associate of Applied Science degrees ranging from Accounting to Radiologic Technology. Students also can choose from more than 20 skills or 12 professional certificate programs that can lead to quick employment.

Summer enrollment at SFCC is underway for current and new students. Summer minimester on-ground and online classes will be held May 16-27; the last day to enroll is May 9. The summer session begins June 1.

Fall enrollment is open now for current and new students. The fall minimester session will be held Aug. 1-12. The regular fall semester begins Aug. 22.

SFCC offers classes in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online. Prospective students may apply online at www.sfccmo.edu/admissions, email admissions@sfccmo.edu to schedule an appointment, go to Student Services in the Hopkins Center on the Sedalia campus, or to any extended campus location.

SFCC offers more than 260 online classes plus two complete online degree programs: an Associate of Arts degree and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management.

The college has agreements with four-year schools that ensure earned credits will transfer to those institutions. The college also has specific agreements with Central Methodist University (CMU) to provide bachelor’s degree programs in Sedalia, Clinton, Lake of the Ozarks, and online; with Drury University for on-ground and online programs; with Grantham University for online programs; and with the University of Central Missouri (UCM) and the University of Missouri. CMU and UCM also offer dual admission through SFCC.
