SEDALIA—State Fair Community College has announced the hiring of three part-time soccer coaches and one part-time softball coach. Assistant soccer coaches will work with both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.

Alec Nagel will be responsible for soccer team tactics and fitness. He played college soccer at Drury University in Springfield where he was named Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) all-conference and earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Midwest Region and Daktronics All-Midwest Regionals honors and was an All-American nominee. From 2012 to 2014, Nagel was named to the GLVC All-Conference Academic Team. In 2014 he was named to the NSCAA All-District Academic First-Team and Daktronics All-Academic First-Team.

Nagel was on Drury’s dean’s list throughout college and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He then played semi-professional soccer for vv Alverna in Wijchens, Netherlands, from August to December 2015 and served as a coach for the United Soccer Club in Jefferson City this year.

Lakin Kehde will be responsible for technical development of the soccer teams. He played soccer for Sacred Heart High in Sedalia and at Maple Woods Community College (MWCC) in Kansas City where he was team captain and was named all-region second team and MWCC Player of the Year in 2013. Kehde transferred to Columbia College and was named American Midwest Conference all-conference in 2014. He graduated in May 2016 from Columbia College with a Bachelor of General Studies degree. He also coached for the Northland Sports Alliance.

Ismael Aguirre, from Santa Ana, El Salvador, will coach the goalkeepers on both soccer teams. He played club soccer in El Salvador before moving to the United States at age 14. Aguirre played soccer at Sacred Heart High School and at Metropolitan Community College-Blue River, Missouri.

“I was looking for local people with solid technical and tactical foundations in the game,” said Eddie Horn, head men’s and women’s soccer coach. “I’m familiar with all three of these men; they want to learn and become better coaches and are excited to be coaching at this level.”

The Roadrunners soccer team will scrimmage against William Woods University at 5 p.m. Aug. 16. The Lady Roadrunners soccer team will scrimmage against Kansas City Kansas Community College at 2 p.m. Aug. 17. Both matches will take place on the field west of the Fred E. Davis Center.

Haley Kinnison will be the pitching coach for the Lady Roadrunners softball team under Lyndsey Talbot, SFCC’s head softball coach. She began her collegiate career at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin and was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week in April 2014 and named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Kinnison transferred to Central Methodist University (CMU) and helped the team to a fifth-place finish in the 2015 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes Softball World Series. She was named first-team all-region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2015. She graduated in May 2016 from CMU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development.

Kinnison was an assistant coach of the 12U Lee’s Summit Mustangs in 2013-2014 and has taught hitting, fielding and pitching fundamentals at several softball camps.

“I wanted someone with pitching knowledge and experience, and Haley knows this position well,” said Talbot. “I’ve known her for three years and coached her at CMU where I saw her skills and love of the game.”

The Lady Roadrunners softball season will kick off in spring 2017 and will play home games at Richard Vansell Field in Liberty Park.
