SEDALIA—The State Fair Community College Athletics Department will hold its annual athletic banquet at 6:30 p.m. March 21 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

Student-athletes will be recognized for individual accomplishments, and two former student-athletes, Amber Mays and Sanijay Watts, will be inducted into the Roadrunner Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2016.

Mays was a member of SFCC’s women’s basketball team during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons. The Pasadena, California, native was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American during her time at SFCC.

Mays helped lead her team to a 22-9 record as a freshman and a 25-7 record as a sophomore. As a freshman, she ranked fifth in school history in assists with 4.65 per game and sixth in school history in steals with 3.35 per game. She ranked 22nd in the nation in steals and 41st in the nation in field-goal percentage at 54.3.

In her sophomore year, she ranked sixth in school history in assists with 4.45 and eighth in school history in steals with 3.26, which placed her 21st in the nation for steals. She earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American at the conclusion of her sophomore year.

Mays graduated in 2008 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and transferred to Liberty University (LU) in Virginia. As a junior, she led in steals with 68 and assists with 126 and helped her team to a conference championship. As a senior, she made the Big South All-Tournament Team. She recorded 77 steals that season, which ranked sixth in LU’s program history. Mays graduated from LU in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Watts played Roadrunner basketball as a sophomore during the 2007-2008 season. The St. Louis native finished first in school history in points per game with 21.9, ranking him 18th in the nation. Watts finished fourth in school history in rebounds per game with 8.063 and led his team to a 19-13 record. He earned All-Region 16 honors and National Junior College Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Honorable Mention All-American honors.

He transferred to the University of Central Missouri (UCM) where he scored 15.5 points and pulled down 6.1 rebounds per contest as a junior. He helped the Mules to a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championship and a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II South Central Regional championship in which he was named MVP. Watts helped lead UCM to the Elite Eight at the national championship before the team fell in the semi-final round.

As a senior he led UCM to a 27-4 record and to another MIAA championship. The team fell one game short of another Elite Eight appearance. Watts led his team in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage during his two years at UCM and earned a total of five All-American honors.
