SEDALIA—The State Fair Community College’s Donald C. Proctor Library in Yeater Learning Center and Financial Aid office in Hopkins Student Services Center will host the 2016 DASH for the STASH, an investor education and protection program and contest that will take place March 15 to May 15 on the Sedalia campus. It is open to the public.

One statewide winner will be chosen in a random drawing of eligible participants who logged the correct answers to quiz questions on four posters. The winner will receive a $1,000 contribution to an existing or new Individual Retirement Account (IRA) for 2016.

The DASH for the STASH contest is played much like a scavenger hunt. But instead of collecting objects, individuals collect information about saving and investing and leave answers to quiz questions. To enter, individuals can visit the Proctor Library or the Financial Aid office where a set of four investor education topic posters and one rules poster are displayed. Contestants read each poster and then access the quiz question for each poster.

“We are pleased that the Proctor Library and Financial Aid office can be involved in this novel project to educate our students and community members about saving and investing for the future,” said Michelle Franklin, director of the Proctor Library. “Our goal is to provide unbiased and non-commercial information they can use to make crucial investing decisions. We also hope they’ll discover what a great resource the college library is.”

The DASH for the STASH posters each have a QR code and a web link to a quiz that individuals will access to answer questions and participate in the contest. The posters cover four key topics: finding financial advisors, avoiding fraud, understanding investment fees, and building a nest egg. The easiest way to participate in the contest is to use a smartphone or mobile device to scan each poster’s QR code, but a laptop or desktop computer also can be used.

The Office of the Missouri Secretary of State and the nonprofit Investor Protection Institute (IPI) are launching the program.
