BOONVILLE—State Fair Community College will request permission from the State Board of Nursing to end its Practical Nursing (PN) program at the Boonslick Technical Education Center (BTEC) effective August 2016 due to inadequate enrollment.

The SFCC Board of Trustees approved the recommendation July 28.

The college assumed sponsorship of the program in June 2013 at the request of the Boonville School District, which elected to no longer maintain the program due to costs associated with new accreditation requirements for programs in which students receive financial aid.

Dr. Rhonda Hutton Gann, associate dean of Allied Health at SFCC, said 12 students enrolled in 2013 and10 the following year. Only five have been contingently admitted for fall 2015 with an expected completion date of June 2016.

“Despite our best and extreme efforts to identify qualified students for the program, we recommended the board inactivate the PN program at BTEC effective with fall 2016 semester,” said Gann. “The five students will be given the option to complete the program on the Sedalia campus.”

SFCC offers the Practical Nursing program at its Sedalia campus during the daytime and in a three-day late afternoon/weekend format, as well as during the day at its Eldon campus. Students interested in the Nursing program can complete prerequisites at SFCC-Boonville.

SFCC offers more than 60 day and evening classes at SFCC-Boonville. Enrollment is now open for fall semester classes that begin Aug. 24 at The Kemper Campus, 701 Third St.

Classes offered range from accounting, art appreciation, English, composition chemistry, human biology, and anatomy with lab to world geography, math, history, public speaking, and more. For a complete class schedule go to www.sfccmo.edu/searchforclasses.
