State Fair Community College’s Small Business & Technology Development Center is offering six professional training sessions for entrepreneurs and business owners or managers on the Sedalia campus.

Lunch & Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Thompson Conference Center in Heckart Science and Allied Health Center. This session is designed for personnel in financial and lending institutions. Speakers are Don Reese and Suzanne Stearman; they will talk about Small Business Administration programs, services and loans. Cost is $10; lunch is provided. Starting a Business: The First Steps will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 20 or Nov. 16 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. This session provides the steps to start a business. Participants will assess their business strengths and weaknesses, learn planning tips, identify funding sources, and discuss legal and regulatory requirements. Cost is $49 and that includes materials. Instructor is Kelly Asbury, SFCC’s director of SBTDC.

The Basics of Writing a Business Plan will be 1-4 p.m. Sept. 20 or Nov. 16 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. This session, for future and current business owners, covers the key elements of a strong business plan, format and writing styles and a Q&A wrap-up. Cost is $49 and includes materials; instructor is Asbury.

Advanced QuickBooks training will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. This class is for experienced QuickBooks users. Participants will learn how to customize and memorize reports and transactions, export to Microsoft Excel, track quantities, reconcile accounts, and access information from QuickBooks data. Cost is $39.

Focus on Financial Management will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. This session is for small businesses, nonprofit boards or financial administrators. Participants will learn how to identify and understand profit and loss statements and balance sheets; how to calculate and use financial ratios to make good business decisions; and the difference between cash and accrual. Cost is $49.

Don’t Let your Business get Hacked seminar will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 in Thompson Conference Center in Heckart Science and Allied Health Center. Participants will hear Darren Holtz, FBI; Tom Fairfax, Bothwell Regional Health Center; Robert Lamm, Lamm Tech; and Joel Sovanski, SFCC Information Technology Services, discuss how to identify cyber risks, how to avoid hacking and available resources. Cost is $12; lunch is included.
