Sedalia, Missouri – Kelly Asbury, director for the Small Business Development Center at State Fair Community College, based in Sedalia, has earned the Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) credential from the National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE) International.  Asbury recently completed the requirements of the internationally-recognized professional certification and is now one of approximately 2,000 individuals in 19 countries who have earned the CGBP credential.

The CGBP designation confirms knowledge in international trade and shows employers and the public that the individual is proficient in global business and capable of working with the level of expertise and professionalism that is required in today’s competitive environment. The CGBP is accepted as a United States standard. Many countries seek employees trained to a United States standard, given the United States has a significant position in international trade. Amy Jackson, executive director of SFCC’s The LearningForce under which the SBDC operates, commented that Asbury pursued this training to further assist small business owners in exploring international markets.

“The Global Business Professional certification has helped Kelly to expand her expertise and the resources available through the SBDC to further assist companies in the sale of their products globally and increase their revenues,” Jackson said. “The SBDC offers entrepreneurs and small businesses no-cost counseling and low-cost training opportunities that meet individuals and businesses where they are and help them launch, grow and succeed. “

NASBITE is a professional organization of educators, trainers, service providers and practitioners and the leading U.S. organization supporting the training and education in the field of global business.  Its mission is “to advance global business practice, education and training”, which is accomplished by facilitating educators, trainers and practitioners in support of their collective interests and needs related to global business.

In 2000, NASBITE International launched the CGBP to raise the level of practice in the field, provide professional development goals, and showcase competency in the four CGBP domains: Global Business Management, International Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Trade Finance. The CGBP is designed to meet the needs of global trade professionals in a wide range of industries and professions, as well as those working in trade education, trade assistance and promotion, trade facilitation, and those studying for a career related to global commerce.
