The LearningForce at State Fair Community College has released its schedule of on-site and online courses for 2019. The LearningForce offers noncredit continuing education for professional development and personal enrichment.

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A Truck Driving Academy begins Jan. 2 and is a four-week program designed to train new truck drivers how to drive, the rules and regulations of the road and how to keep driving logs. Training time entails about 200 hours. Students must have a CDL permit and pass drug and health screenings before starting. Classes are held in Fielding Technical Center, Room 245. Upon completion, students will be prepared to earn a Class A CDL. Go to sfccmo.edu/cdl for details and application. Gary Willis is the instructor. The next class starts Feb. 4.
  • Yoga classes will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Jan. 8 for eight sessions in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or rug. Cost is $39; Irene Renauld is the instructor.
  • Yogalates, a fusion of yoga and Pilates, will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight sessions beginning Jan. 8 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. This class offers stretching and strengthening of all major muscles and calms the mind and spirit. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat. Cost is $39; Sue Guffin is the instructor.

A 15 percent discount is applied if enrolling in three or more yoga or Yogalates sessions at the same time prior to the start of class. Prime Time Learners, anyone over 60 years old, gets 10 percent off and PrimeMulti, anyone over 60 who registers for three classes, gets 24 percent discount.

  • Beginning Country and Western Dance will meet from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks beginning Jan. 15 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. It is designed for beginners and people who want to brush up on their skills. It teaches basic steps and simple variations of some of the most popular country and western dances. Students may attend alone or with a partner. Smooth-soled shoes are recommended. Class ends on March 5,  with no class on Feb. 28. Cost is $59; instructors are Mary Donnell-Brown and Travis Goosen.
  • Beginning Country Line Dance will meet from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays for seven weeks beginning Jan. 17 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. This course is for people who like to dance but may not have a partner. Students will learn Electric Slide, Red Solo Scuff, Firecracker, Moves like Jagger, and other dances. Cost is $59; Mary Donnell-Brown is the instructor.
  • Crappie University, a one-day, accelerated course in crappie fishing strategies and cutting-edge techniques, will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in Thompson Conference Center in Heckart Science and Allied Health Center. Cost is $99 and includes lunch and lure kit. The course is appropriate for ages 15 and up.  In the event of inclement weather, the session will be held Feb. 23. Instructors include America’s top crappie guides and pros with many years of experience in crappie fishing, guiding and participating in tournaments.

George Toalson, lifelong crappie angler and Bobby Garland lure designer will teach “What Crappie See and How to Trigger Strikes” in session one. Scott Turnage, field promotions manager for G3 Boats and host of G3 Sportsman, and Jeff Faulkenberry, Faulkenberry Outdoors on Truman Lake guide, will team-teach “Missouri-Region Crappie Patterns Now thru Spring” in session two. Barry Morrow and Chap Maupin, three-time winners of the Crappie Masters Missouri State Championship and Crappie Masters 2018 Team of the Year, will team-teach “Get Out of Your Comfort Zone to Catch More Crappie” in session three. All instructors will do Q&A in session four.
