Sedalia, Missouri  Dec. 3, 2021 –This past summer Benjamin Schwaller of Eldon, former State Fair Community College student, was awarded a rootEd Alliance Transfer Scholarship for up to $10,000. The scholarship is renewable for up to five years to support his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.

While in high school, Schwaller competed 21 hours of dual credit from SFCC and then attended SFCC this last academic year before transferring to University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. His area of study is Occupational Safety, and he plans to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Occupational Safety with emphasis in Safety Management. Schwaller’s goal is to have a career that focuses on keeping people who work in manufacturing, construction or production safe.

Schwaller learned about the transfer scholarship opportunity through information provided by SFCC’s Financial Aid and Veteran Services. SFCC is one of four Missouri community colleges through which rootEd Alliance offers scholarships to students who are seeking bachelor’s degrees.

“This scholarship will tremendously help me financially,” said Schwaller. “I will not have to work as much and will be able to spend more time studying and participating in internships that are relevant to my major.”

The rootEd Community College Transfer Scholarship is awarded to students transferring from eligible community colleges in Missouri to four-year colleges and universities. The mission of rootEd Alliance is to clear a path to a stronger future for students in rural America. Formed in 2018, rootEd Alliance has awarded 18 new scholarships this year to undergraduate and transfer students from rural Missouri, filling critical gaps in students financial aid packages to help ensure they graduate debt-free.
