The State Fair Career and Technology Center (CTC) held a senior signing day May 2 on the State Fair Community College campus. The event recognized and celebrated the seniors who have chosen to attend SFCC and/or join the workforce in their career field after graduation.

“We have 100 students graduating from the CTC this year,” said Michael Wright, CTC executive director. “We had 50 students sign and commit to enroll at State Fair Community College. We also had several employers participate to recognize those students who are going to work with them. The employers were McCarthy Toyota of Sedalia, Mid-City Lumber, Blue Demon Co., Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center, and Zeller Construction.”

Representatives from SFCC’s Allied Health, Automotive Technology, Early Childhood Development, Precision Machining Technology, and Welding Technology programs, and Admissions and Outreach were at the signing to welcome the students to SFCC and for pictures to commemorate their decisions.

“I am very proud of our seniors and their accomplishments,” said Wright. “They have worked hard to reach their goals. Making college and career decisions is a difficult task, but our students were prepared to do that because of the experiences they gained from attending the CTC and from the support of their teachers and counselors.

“We truly appreciate all of the support from the sending schools, the college and the employers who were here to recognize our students. Completing one of these programs is an accomplishment that will benefit the students and our communities.”

The CTC offers free technical training to juniors and seniors from 13 high schools in 10 school districts and is one of four technical schools in Missouri affiliated with a community college. The programs prepare students for entry-level employment, advanced job training, entry into two- or four-year college programs, entry into apprenticeship programs, or entry into military training. Students who complete a program receive college credit, industry recognized credentials and employment readiness training.
