With the current pandemic, many colleges and universities have transition<\/span>ed<\/span> t<\/span>o <\/span>alternative way<\/span>s<\/span> of teaching. For many, this means online<\/span> classes<\/span>. <\/span>At SFCC, we have taken the proper measures to allow our faculty the time to prepare for the best alternative instructions. Our faculty ha<\/span>ve<\/span> been<\/span> busy<\/span> i<\/span>mple<\/span>me<\/span>nting<\/span> creative <\/span>strategies<\/span> to teach their <\/span>course<\/span>s<\/span> virtually. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

While this may seem a little intimidating for some <\/span>students<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> can assure you that your instructors and the SFCC support staff are sincerely committed to making this transition as smoothly as possible and helping you succeed.<\/span> Some of you may have experience with online courses, but many do not. For students who are now entering the world of online learning, here on some tips on how to use SFCC\u2019s resources to your advantage.<\/span> 
\n <\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. NAVIGATORS<\/span><\/b> ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND<\/span><\/b> 
    \nNavigators are here for you virtually<\/span>;<\/span> you\u2019re not alone!<\/span> Never hesitate to contact your navigator with any questions<\/span>,<\/span> concerns<\/span> or challenges<\/span>.<\/span> Your navigator will be reaching out to you, if they haven\u2019t already, and<\/span> they<\/span> plan to keep in contact with you throughout the rest of the semester.<\/span> This frequent outreach is built on dedication to students, their success and the recognition that questions will <\/span>arise<\/span>,<\/span> and students need answers.<\/span> If they don\u2019t know the answer, they can lead you to someone who does. <\/span>Yvette Sweeney, <\/span><\/b>Director of Student Success, stated, \u201c<\/span>We want students to finish strong and navigators are a huge piece of their success network.\u201d <\/span>Starfish<\/span><\/b> has been updated to reflect Navigator office hours and email\/phone information.<\/span> Meet the navigators at<\/span>     https:\/\/www.sfccmo.edu\/offices-services\/navigator-advising\/meet-the-navigators\/<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span>

  2.  USE CANVAS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE<\/span><\/b> 
    \n<\/span>C<\/span>anvas <\/span>is <\/span>the online platform you will use to find your assignments, <\/span>course materials<\/span>, grades, classmates, and instructor\u2019s contact information. Your <\/span>Dashboard<\/span><\/b> is where you will find all your classes<\/span> along with your <\/span>T<\/span><\/b>o-<\/span><\/b>D<\/span><\/b>o <\/span><\/b>L<\/span><\/b>ist<\/span><\/b>. Be sure to <\/span>read all announcements<\/span><\/i> sent to you on Canvas <\/span>because <\/span>your instructor<\/span>s<\/span> will use <\/span>this feature <\/span>to post important information<\/span>. <\/span>Keep an eye on your to-do list<\/span><\/i>, so you don\u2019t miss any assignments. Want a peer\u2019s feedback or input? <\/span>Go to the <\/span><\/i>People<\/span><\/i><\/b> tab <\/span><\/i>in your selected course to see who is enrolled in your <\/span>class. <\/span>Get in contact with your instructor and classmates quickly by using<\/span> the<\/span> Inbox<\/span><\/b> feature.   3. STAY<\/span><\/b> UP<\/span><\/b>–<\/span><\/b>TO<\/span><\/b>–<\/span><\/b>DATE WITH <\/span><\/b>mySFCC<\/span><\/b>
    \n<\/span>One of the most important <\/span>SFCC <\/span>resources offered to students is <\/span>the <\/span>mySFCC<\/span> portal<\/span>.<\/span> In <\/span>mySFCC<\/span>, you can stay <\/span>up<\/span>–<\/span>to<\/span>–<\/span>date<\/span> will all <\/span>campus<\/span><\/i> and personal<\/span><\/i> announcements<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>connect to <\/span><\/i>C<\/span><\/i>anvas and <\/span><\/i>S<\/span><\/i>tarfish, <\/span><\/i>see <\/span><\/i>emergency alerts, <\/span><\/i>get <\/span><\/i>library access, and much more.<\/span><\/i> Be sure to read all announcements <\/span>to<\/span> stay in the know with SFCC updates.<\/span> Access <\/span>mySFCC<\/span> at <\/span>    https:\/\/mysfcc.sfccmo.edu<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/li>\n

PROCTOR <\/span><\/b>LIBRARY<\/span><\/b> EXTENDED <\/span><\/b>DUE DATES<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Proctor<\/span> L<\/span>ibrary has extended <\/span>its<\/span> due dates for <\/span>all <\/span>checked out mater<\/span>ials to <\/span>May 1<\/span><\/b>. <\/span>Please k<\/span>eep your items until the library can receive them. All lending and borrowing services have been suspended between MOBIUS institutions until further notice.<\/span> You can still access online databases through <\/span>mySFCC<\/span> under <\/span>Library ><\/span><\/b> Databases<\/span><\/b>.<\/span> If you have any questions regarding Proctor Library materials and services, email <\/span><\/a>library@sfccmo.edu. <\/span><\/a><\/li>\n
  5. CAMPUS<\/span><\/b> STORE<\/span><\/b> ONLINE<\/span><\/b> 
    \n<\/span>The SFCC <\/span>Campus Store<\/span> is open online at <\/span>    sfccbooks.com<\/span><\/b><\/a>. Make sure to order your books for second 8-week classes that begin March 30. The bookstore is offering free shipping through March 31. Use promocode STAYHOME<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/span>

  6.  ONLINE ENGLISH\/WRITING <\/span><\/b>TUTORING SERVICES<\/span><\/b> 
    \n<\/span>Need feedback on a paper before <\/span>turning it in<\/span> for grading? Email your papers <\/span>to<\/span> Jennifer Jackson<\/span><\/b> at <\/span>    jjackson5@sfccmo.edu<\/span><\/b><\/a>. <\/span>She will be available to review papers Monday through Friday and <\/span>will<\/span> return papers back<\/span> within 48 hours from when it was received (the 48 hours do not include weekends, holidays, or school closures)<\/span>.
