SEDALIA—The State Fair Community College Foundation has appointed three new members to its board of directors: Scott Largent, Gary McMullin and Debra Simaitis.

Largent, Clinton, is the Henry County assessor. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master of Science degree in Public Service Administration from the University of Central Missouri.

He is president of the Henry County University of Missouri Extension and serves on the board of directors for CARE, Truman Regional Community Development Corp. and the Community Association of Regional Enterprises. He belongs to the Elks, Eagles and the Masonic Lodge and attends First Baptist Church in Clinton.

“I joined the SFCC Foundation to find ways to increase educational opportunities in Henry County and the entire region,” said Largent. “I’d like to help spotlight the SFCC-Clinton facility in Henry County so our students and residents can increase their education.”

He and his wife Leslie, a teacher at Clinton High School, have been married for 23 years. They have four children: Taylor, 20; Seth, 17; Katie, 6; and Joshua, 5.

McMullin, who lives on a farm south of Smithton, owns W&M Welding Inc. and Viebrock Sales & Service LLC.

During his junior and senior years in high school he took welding classes through SFCC’s vocational-technical program, now the State Fair Career and Technology Center. He won a state welding contest one year and was a member of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA).

McMullin graduated from the American Welding School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, then spent several years welding on power plants and refineries throughout the country before moving back to Smithton.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Center for Human Services and the Missouri State Fair Foundation and an advisory board member for Missouri Bank II. He also is a supporter of the Liberty Center and the Trails End committee.

He has two children, son Jacob and his wife Natasha, and daughter Jaymi Wells and her husband, Wes, who have a son, Dakota.

“I want to help strengthen our community college and take its facilities to the next level,” said McMullin. “I want our young people to get a strong start on the rest of their lives.”

Simaitis, who lives in east central Benton County, is chairperson of the Governor’s Organ Donation Advisory Committee for Missouri. She serves as an ambassador for the Midwest Transplant Network and a representative of Gift of Life. She also speaks to civic groups and high schools to raise awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation.

She has been married for 45 years to Sanford (San) Simaitis; they have three children and three grandchildren.

“Since moving to Benton County 12 years ago, I have heard only positive stories about SFCC,” said Simaitis. “Knowing that Benton County supports the college, I wanted to do more. I am proud to be a part of SFCC.”

All three will serve three-year terms ending in June 2018.

The foundation, a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation, was established in 1981 to raise funds to meet SFCC’s needs. Its mission is to support and assist the college in serving the community by providing accessible, quality educational programs and services.
