ETS - Plug in - FAQ

Do I have to use Clean Access?
Yes, all Student/Guest Windows PCs are required to use the Clean Access Agent for access to the SFCC network. This allows us to associate you with your computer and verify that you are a valid user on our network.

How do I get to the log in page?
Before your computer is able to access SFCC’s computer network, you must open a web browser and will automatically be redirected to login to Clean Access using your SFCC Network ID and password. After you have authenticated your computer, you will be given access to the Internet.

What if I have forgotten or don't know my username/password?
Please call the SFCC Helpdesk from on-campus 7711 or 866-295-3070

When does my computer's authentication expire?
You will be required to authenticate to the network any time your computer has been asleep, powered off, or disconnected from Clean Access.

Clean Access says I'm logged in, but I can't get a web page to load?
We have found that personal firewall products (Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm, McAfee Personal Firewall, etc.) affect internet connectivity with Clean Access. You should disable your personal firewall. Restart your computer and login again to Clean Access again. Note that the Microsoft Windows Firewall should remain enabled as it will not interfere with Clean Access.

Why does my system seem slow when I first log in?
The first time you log in, you may notice a slight delay.  This is caused by Clean Access checking your computer to make sure it has the current security patches and has virus protection.

Why are you scanning my computer when I log in?
This scan is used for no other purpose other than to ensure your computer is safe to use on the network.  By taking these measures, you are helping to prevent your computer from infecting another student’s computer, and that your computer will not be infected by someone else’s computer.

Clean Access tells me to install Windows XP Service Pack 2. I thought that I already had it installed.
You can check your computer to make sure you have the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed: right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. The service pack level installed will be indicated on the Window that opens.

After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 my Internet works for about 5-15 minutes and then stops working
This problem is often caused by viruses and/or spyware related issues.

I am unable to ping the default gateway address. Shouldn't I be able to do this?
No, you will not be able to ping the default gateway. This is normal.

I cannot install the Clean Access Agent, because I get an error message saying that I need administrative rights.
You must be logged onto your computer as a user with administrative rights or as the administrator. Contact the person who installed your operating system.

How do I know that Clean Access is installed successfully and running on my computer?
Look for the Clean Access icon in your system tray located in the lower right hand  corner of your screen near the time display.

I do not see the Clean Access icon in my system tray.  What should I do?
If you do not see the Clean Access icon in your system tray then one of the following situations will apply.

  1. The Clean Access Agent has not been installed.
Solution : You will need to install the Clean Access Agent to continue.

  1. The Clean Access Agent has been installed but you did not select “Launch” at the end of the installation.
Solution : Manually launch the program by doing the following :
      • Go to your “Start” menu at the bottom left of your screen
      • then select “Programs”
      • then select “Cisco”, then select “Clean Access Agent”,
      • then select “Clean Access Agent”

  1. The Clean Access Agent is “hidden” in System Tray.
Solution : Click on “<<“ to expand your system tray list and show the Clean Access Agent icon, then continue to login.

  1. For all other issues please call the SFCC Help Desk at 7711 or 866-295-3070
How do I login?
There are several ways to login:

  1. The Clean Access Agent will automatically display a popup when you connect to the network. Enter your SFCC Network ID and password to login.

  1. When you enter a website URL (ie: www.google.com) in a browser window, you will be re-directed to a login webpage. Enter your SFCC Network ID and password to login.

  1. Right click on the Clean Access icon in your system tray and select “login”.
What happens if I uninstall the Clean Access Agent?
You will be required to reinstall the client to re-authenticate when your login expires.

I keep trying to install the Clean Access Agent but it keeps telling me that I can either Modify/Repair or Remove the program.  There is no install option.
The Clean Access Agent is currently installed on your machine. You do not need to install it again.

How do I logout?
Currently, the only way to manually logout is to use the Clean Access Agent "logout" feature. Right-click the Clean Access Agent icon in the system tray and choose logout.

I do not have a “logout” option in Clean Access Agent.
You are not logged in. Once you login through the Clean Access Agent, you will have the “logout” feature.

I am not able to access the internet but the Clean Access Agent only allows me to “logout”. What’s going on?
The Clean Access Agent may not always detect your network status. Please choose “logout” and then choose “login” again.

The Clean Access Agent client does not offer a "login," just a "logout," and the web page tells me that I must now use the Clean Access Agent to login. What do I do?
The Clean Access Agent does not always detect your network status. Please choose "logout", and then choose “login” again.

Can I update Windows before I login?
Yes, you should be able to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This Web site is allowed without logging into Clean Access.

Can I update my Antivirus program before I have logged in?
Most major antivirus Web sites can be accessed without logging into Clean Access. You may need to update from home before connecting to our network.

When I run Windows Update, I get a message stating that the product key used to install windows is invalid. Why?
Windows Update will fail if your Windows Operating System is not properly licensed. You must have a legal copy of the operating system to connect to the SFCC network. Please contact Microsoft or your PC manufacturer with questions.

I am receiving an error: Network Error: SSL certificate REV failed [12057]. What should I do?

Open up Internet Explorer
Click on Tools --> Internet Options
Click on the Advanced tab and scroll down towards the bottom to the Security section
Uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation"
Close Internet Explorer and the Clean Access Agent
Start the Clean Access Agent and login
