Tuition and Fees Q&A
Q. When are fees due?
A. The most pressing deadlines for fee payment, etc., are listed online on the Academic Calendar, which can be accessed from the State Fair Community College home page. Select the link for Academic Calendar, which appears under the blue tabbed Current Events heading.
Fee payment deadlines for the next three semesters are:
- Fall 2008 tuition and fees obligation date is Aug. 5, 2008
- Spring 2009 tuition and fees obligation TBA
- Summer 2009 tuition and fees obligation TBA
You might now ask, what is an “obligation date?” The obligation date is a date established each semester when tuition and associated fees are to be paid in full unless monthly financial arrangements through the FACTS Tuition Management payment plan have been made. Paperwork requirements with the Financial Aid Office should be in place by the obligation date as well.
Q. What if I do not have the cash to pay for tuition and fees by the due date?
A. There are several options for students to pay their tuition and fees. One common option is federal financial aid (see the Financial Aid Q&A section), through which students under certain income criteria may be eligible to receive grants, which do not have to be paid back, and/or student loans, which do have to be paid back. Students can also pay tuition and fees with a credit card (see below), or they can sign up for a payment plan (see below), through which tuition and fees may be spread out over several months.
Q. How do I sign up for the payment plan?
A. To sign up for the payment plan, access the Student Payment Plan page on this Web site. Choose the e-cashier logo to enter the site to enroll in the FACTS Tuition Management payment plan.
Q. My employer will pay for my tuition and/or books. What do I need to do?
A. Pick up an Authority for Educational Assistance form from the Business Office. This form may be mailed or e-mailed at your request. Have your employer complete the form and return it to the Business Office. The form must be received by the fee payment due date in order to retain your classes. If your employer indicates on the form that they will pay for books and/or other supplies available through the bookstore, a charge account will be established for you at the SFCC Bookstore.
Q. Do you accept credit/debit cards?
A. We accept MasterCard, VISA, and Discover. We can also accept some debit cards, depending upon how your bank has set-up your card.
Q. Can I make a payment with my credit card over the phone?
A. Yes. Please call the Business Office at (660) 530-5826, ext. 7203 or 7204, to make a credit card payment over the telephone.
Q. Can I make a payment using my credit card online?
A. Yes. Enrolled students may make payments online through mySTAR, SFCC's Intranet, at http://mystar.sfccmo.edu. After logging in, select the Student tab and then the Statement and Payment History link in the My Statement channel. At the bottom of the statement and payment history page, select the Credit Card Payment option.
Q. I just received a 1098-T form in the mail. What is this form?
A. 1098-T forms are mailed by the end of January each year to those students who had tuition and fee charges in the preceding calendar year and may be used in income tax filings. Please give this form to your tax preparer for him or her to determine if you are eligible for any tax credits.
Q. I’m trying to access my account in STAR and I get a message that says I owe $25. What does this mean?
A. Student accounts with balances due greater than $25 are flagged and a hold is placed on that student’s account. This hold prevents the student from enrolling or receiving other services, such as receiving a copy of a transcript. The account balances may be due to unpaid tuition, fees, housing fees, library fines, etc. Please contact the Business Office at 530-5826, ext. 7203 to check your account and see if the hold can be removed.
Effective as of 6/18/2007.
