Jump Drive Notice

Many SFCC students are purchasing USB Flash drives (also called Thumb or Jump drives) for use in saving their data in Student Labs / Library. This newer technology is a good alternative to floppy disks. However, students need to know that the "secure" type of Flash drive is incompatible with the security measures that are in place on the Student Lab PCs.

If you choose to purchase a Flash/Jump drive for use at SFCC, be sure that you do NOT purchase a drive that says it is "secure." For example, WalMart sells a brand called Lexar JumpDrive, with two models to choose from: Sporty and Secure. The Sporty model works well on the college computers, but the Secure model does not because it requires the user to install software on the computer. Student Lab/Library computers will not allow the installation of any software, so the Secure model will not work there. The SFCC Bookstore has flash drives available for purchase.
