Melita Day child Development Center
Quality Child Care at Affordable Prices
With a large population of non-traditional students, SFCC is pleased to offer on-campus daycare services. In 1996, SFCC received a state grant to renovate the student union into a 7,500-square-foot daycare facility. At that same time, SFCC entered into a partnership with Melita Day Child Development Center, a United Way agency serving Sedalia since 1910, to provide daycare services to SFCC students and the Sedalia community.
Owned and operated by a volunteer board of directors, Melita Day also serves as a hands-on learning experience for students enrolled in the early childhood development program at SFCC and in the State Fair Career and Technology Center childcare program.
Melita Day provides care for children ages birth to 10 years and is open from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, year round. Drop-in sitting services are not provided. Part- and full-time enrollments are available for SFCC students and employees. Full-time enrollment is available to the Sedalia community. Dedicated staff provide age-appropriate curriculum, with special emphasis on Kindergarten readiness.
An enrollment form must be completed and a copy of the child's current immunization record must be in the Melita office before your child may begin attending the nursery. This form includes emergency instructions in case the parent or designated physician cannot be reached, permission for emergency care, and permission for field trips.
A completed health form must be in the Melita office within thirty (30) days following your child's admission. This form must be signed by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner not more that twelve (12) months prior to admission.
For children under two (2) years of age, a detailed feeding schedule must be completed.
The following forms are required for enrollment: enrollment, immunization, medical report and CACFP.
For children ages two to nine, Melita Day Child Development Center bases full-day rates on a sliding scale of fees, dependent upon total family income. The appropriate fee will be determined upon presentation of the last year's tax return. This information will be kept strictly confidential. A non-refundable processing fee of $25 must be paid for the first child and $15 for each additional child for admission to the Nursery.
Fees are as follows (as of 5/1/2012):
Infants to 3 years of age - $120 per week or $24 per day.
|$13,000 or less
|$13,001 - 15,000
|$15,001 - 17,500
|$17,501 - 19,500
|$19,501 - 22,000
|$22,001 and up
When more than one child (ages 3 and older) in a family is enrolled, the first child shall pay at the level determined by family income, and the fee for additional children will be reduced one level, with the minimum fee being $12 per day. The rate for children 3 and older enrolled for fewer than five hours per day is $15 per day. There are no hourly or part time rates for infants and toddlers.
The program is designed to support the development of children as individuals, as learners, and as a person. It is designed to fit each child’s needs rather than fitting the child into standardized activities. The program will use children’s interests to motivate and engage them in the cognitive, language, social/emotional, and physical domains through both self-directed and teacher directed activities. The children are encouraged to collaborate and work together, take the initiative to create, problem solve, express opinions, and make choices. The staff serves as role models and provides an atmosphere that is safe, warm, nurturing, supportive, and responsive to each child’s needs. We believe parents and families are important companions and they are necessary partners. Family involvement increases the chances of success and working together increases a brighter future for our children.
