Medical Office Administration

Why study medical office administration?

As one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States, the medical office administration profession offers excellent economic opportunities and personal satisfaction.

With specialized training from SFCC, job opportunities are virtually unlimited.  Depending on  your personal preference, you can work at home or in workplace settings like clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, or doctors' and veterinarians' offices.  Flexible work hours are an option with some firms.

If you like working with the public, are compassionate, and able to deal with people who are sick or experiencing stress, a career in medical office administration could be your path to success.  Knowledge of medical terminology, body structure and function, and computer software is helpful.

Curriculum

Curriculum includes a practicum and an internship.  Many SFCC students begin their careers prior to graduation, often going to work for the firms in which they completed internships.  SFCC students enjoy access to microcomputer labs equipped with the latest technology and software.  The classes at SFCC will provide you with training in the following:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • Access
  • Transcription
  • Procedure and Diagnosis Coding
  • Communication
  • Medical office procedures
  • Records management
