A Midsummer Night's Dream

"With one of the finest theatres in the state, an incredible acting/director teacher, and a technical director/designer that can't be beat, SFCC has put together an unbeatable theatre program.  If a student of mine wants a smaller theatre program where they are sure to be cast often and well, I always recommend SFCC.  I've been teaching theatre for nearly 30 years, and for the cost, this is, hands down, the best theatre program in Missouri."

~ Michael Beahm, Theatre Director, Raymore-Peculiar High School

Why study theatre? (You do not have to be a theatre major to participate!)

Theatre is a reflection of life that helps us understand the world around us.Students who are involved in theatre learn many skills including better communication skills, creative problem solving, enhanced creativity, reading comprehension, adaptability, respect for others, a healthy self-esteem, respect for deadlines, dedication, concentration and many others.

SFCC's Theatre Arts is dedicated to serving the community and students by offering professional quality instruction and productions. Creativity, talent and imagination are traits shared by speech and theatre majors at SFCC. Our Associate of Arts degree offers a solid foundation to prepare students to transfer to four-year programs. Our faculty works closely with colleges and universities and professional schools to make sure students are well prepared for upper division courses.

The Theatre Arts program offers enriching experiences in the technical and performance areas. We offer many opportunities to perform without competing with juniors, seniors or graduate students. Our season includes five productions a year including three mainstage, a production for youth, and student-directed one-act plays. Performances are held in the Stauffacher Theatre, one of the best theatre facilities in the state. Our staff is very experienced and dedicated to each student's success.

Thompson O'Sullivan Studio Theatre

With gifts from Barbara Lamy Cooney, Sedalia, and Sylvia L. Thompson, Linn Creek, the college has renovated space in the Yeater Learning Center for a studio theatre or black box that will allow the stage and seating configurations to change into venues such as theatre in the round, corner seating or arena seating for 90 to 100. The focus will be on intimate performances, which will enhance students' learning experiences.
