Courses for College Credit
SFCC offers two courses related to career planning that will also count as elective hours towards an A.A. degree.

  • Career Choice is a 1-credit hour class intended for the college student who is undecided about a college major or related career plans.  This may be the person entering college directly from high school or a mid-career changer who has been in the world of work but desires a new field.  Emphasis will be on making connections between self and the world of work and between academic and career planning.  Career Choice is offered as an on-line class.
  • Employment Strategies is a 1-credit hour course designed to help a student develop employment search skills and career growth potential.  The student will go through the job search process step-by-step.  Guest speakers, group activities, and mock interviews will be utilized and resumes will be constructed.

For information on how to enroll in either of these courses, contact Student Services at (660) 530-5800 ext. 7217 or 7215.

ARC Career Counseling Center
The ARC Career Counseling Center houses a small resource center designed to assist students with embracing future career and job placement protocol.  In addition to the items accessible in the right menu bar under "Links for Students", the center contains a number of publications and handouts related to career planning and entering the workforce.  Resources include resume writing guides, professional attire for the work place, website job search sites and helps.  The Career Placement counselor is also willing to meet with students to assist students in breaking down the career exploration tasks to make it more manageable and remove the anxiety that often accompanies planning one's future. In addition once you have received help with writing your cover letter, resume, and references you may call the career counselor to schedule a "mock interview" to gain confidence with the interview process.  Constructive feedback and encouragement will be given to help individuals present their best self to employers.
