New Students

New students are those who have never attended another college. Students who have earned only dual credit from another college are still considered to be new students.

1. Transcripts or GED certificate

High school students

A copy of your high school transcript showing graduation or a copy of your GED certificate is required for admission. Contact your high school's guidance office and request an official copy of your transcript to be sent to SFCC. You may complete the Request a Transcript form and submit it to your high school if needed.

Home schooled students

Students who are at least 16 years old and have completed a program of home schooling must present one of the following with the application for admission and the application fee to the Admissions office:

A. An official transcript from the correspondence program vendor or from the parent showing courses/credits completed and date of completion; or

B. An official score report from a National ACT Assessment with a minimum composite score of 19; or

C. An official GED transcript or certificate; or

D. An official transcript from an accredited college or university that shows the completion of a minimum of 15 semester hours of college level courses with a 2.0  or higher GPA.

Dual credit students

If you earned college dual credit while attending high school, you will need to request an official academic transcript from each college or university from which you received dual credit to be sent to the Admissions office.

Other credit

If you have earned other credit that can be applied toward your degree such as articulation credit from a Career and Technology Center or vocational school, advanced credit or you have taken a CLEP test that could eliminate taking some prerequisite courses, you will need to provide documentation of these credits to Admissions.

2. Placement scores

The next information needed is your placement scores from ACT, SAT, ASSET or COMPASS. If you have not taken one of these tests, you can make arrangements to take a placement test with the Testing Center

3. Complete Admission Application

Complete an Application for Admission. Apply online now or download a paper application and mail it to the Admissions Office, 3201 West 16th Street, Sedalia, MO 65301. A one-time $25 nonrefundable processing fee is required. Payment may be made with a credit card when submitting the application online, or mail a check payable to SFCC with the paper application.

4. How to pay for college

To enhance a smooth enrollment process, submit the Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FASFA) to apply for federal grants and loans at the same time or before you apply for admission. This will ensure that your aid will be in place by the semester you plan to attend college; apply as early as February 1 for fall enrollment.

You will need information from the previous year's federal tax returns to complete the FASFA. Click on how to pay for college for a link to the FASFA form and more information about financial aid and SFCC scholarships. Don't hesitate to contact the Financial Aid Office if you have questions.

Note: A federal financial aid application is good for one academic year; you will need to apply for aid each year you attend college.

What happens next?

After your Admissions file is complete (application, transcripts, placement scores, and application fee), you will receive a letter and other information from the Advising and Resource Center (ARC). You may then schedule an appointment to visit with an adviser either in person, via e-mail or by phone to discuss your educational goals and how to enroll.
