The dedication of the Multipurpose Center in 2001 marked the completion of the first campus facilities master plan originally conceived in 1968. For the 33 years before its completion, the SFCC athletic teams practiced and played contests in a gym fondly named, “The Birdcage”, which was located off-campus on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. In 2004, the building was renamed the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in honor of SFCC’s founding president.
The first floor of the 57,000-square-foot Davis Center, located west of the Stauffacher Center for the Fine Arts, includes a gymnasium with two college-size basketball/volleyball courts, with seating for more than 1,800; the Tyson Fitness Center, a large weight and fitness room with state-of-the-art equipment; a hydrotherapy and taping room for athletic teams; and the Andrew S. Carroll Administrative Offices, which include offices for the Davis Center and coaching staff.
The second floor features the Damon Heironymus Walking Track; the Kempton Room, a multi-use room with a rubberized floor for aerobics and other activities; two seminar/class rooms and one conference room; the Gardner Denver and National Guard Interactive Television (ITV) classrooms; and the Dental Hygiene program clinical classrooms.
