State Fair Community College

Air Force Students -- Welcome to SFCC

General Education Mobile (GEM)

GEM is a partnership between the Community College of the Air Force and State Fair Community College to offer general education courses online for Air Force personnel who want to complete the CCAF Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree requirements.

Why choose SFCC?

  • We are an accessible, student-centered institution that has maintained accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission for more than 40 years.
  • GEM students and all active-duty military personal, including Air Force Reservists and National Guard, receive the in-district tuition rate, which is currently $100 per credit hour. Tuition for online classes is $145 per credit hour. Tuition and fees are subject to change.
  • GEM students have priority when registering for online classes.
  • Spouses and dependents of active-duty military personnel (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard) can also receive the in-district tuition and fees rate.
  • SFCC is an Air Force friendly college that has operated an extended campus site at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri, since 1988. We understand how important it is to provide personalized service to military personnel.
  • The college was named Victory Media’s 2016 Military Friendly Schools® list for the fifth time. Click the MFS logo on the right for details.
  • Our online instructors have successfully completed a course designed to teach them how to deliver quality instruction via the Internet.
  • More than 260 online classes are available. Length of classes are typically eight-weeks, 12-weeks and 16-weeks, and a few classes can be completed in only two weeks. We call the two-week classes minimesters or interim classes because they are offered between regular fall, spring and summer semesters.
  • John Matthews, director of SFCC-Whiteman AFB, is retired Air Force, and he is your GEM contact.

Why was SFCC selected to participate in the GEM program?

  • SFCC is a member in good standing of the Service members Opportunity College (SOC).
  • SFCC has been a partner in education with the U. S. Air Force for more than 30 years.
