The Roadrunners defeated ABCD Prep from Urbandale, Iowa, 95-64 Jan. 19 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (13-6) found itself in a 10-0 hole to start the game. The Roadrunners trimmed the deficit to 38-37 at halftime and took their first lead early in the second half. They used a deep bench to outscore ABCD Prep 58-26 in the second half to pick up the victory.
“We were finally able to get some stops on defense,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We played stronger offense on the other end before they could get their defense set up, and that ignited us.”
Freshman guard Dondre Alexander led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 26 points, including eight of 11 from beyond the three-point arc. Sophomore guard Kevin Punter contributed 21 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Punter and sophomore guard Joseph Thomasson tied for the team lead in steals with four each. Thomasson registered a double double with 19 points and a team-high 11 assists. Freshman wing Kedar Edwards added 17 points. SFCC dished out 22 assists as a team.
SFCC will host Missouri State University-West Plains Jan. 22 in a battle for first place in Region 16. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
