Friday, January 17, 2014
The Roadrunners picked up another big Region 16 win Jan. 15 when they defeated the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds 77-70 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC (12-6, 2-0 in Region 16) jumped out to an early 11-4 advantage and took a 31-23 lead into halftime.

“Our guys were dialed in and ready to go,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “They know Moberly is probably one of the better teams in the region, and they were looking forward to this game.”

Moberly outscored the Roadrunners by one point in the second half, but SFCC made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

Sophomore guard Kevin Punter led three Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 29 points, including an outstanding 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. He also registered a team-high three steals. Sophomore guard Joseph Thomasson contributed 21 points and nine rebounds. Freshman wing Kedar Edwards added a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists. Freshman center Jean-Louis Wanya led the team in blocked shots with two.

“Our effort was at a championship level tonight,” said Thomas. “We got good minutes from a lot of players tonight.”

SFCC will step out of region play Jan. 18 when the Roadrunners host ABCD Prep at 7:30 p.m. at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
