The Roadrunners opened the second semester with a heartbreaking 73-70 loss to the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes from Wichita, Kan., Jan. 7 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (10-6) jumped out to a 42-30 lead at halftime.
“We had some good contributions from Dondre Alexander and Kevin Punter, and DeAngelo Stephens-Bell had a good first half,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We have to figure out a way to play a complete 40-minute game. We got up 19 points in the second half, but then we played like we thought the game was over. Sunrise Christian fought its way back into the game and came up with the win.”
Sunrise Christian outscored SFCC 43-28 in the second half. The Buffaloes won the game by knocking down a three-point shot off of an inbounds play on the baseline as the buzzer sounded to emerge with the 73-70 victory.
Alexander led three Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 21 points, including five of 11 from beyond the three-point arc. Alexander also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Punter contributed 20 points. DeRon Hill added 17 points. Stephens-Bell dished out a team-high seven assists and Hill contributed six.
The Roadrunners will open Region 16 play Jan. 11 when they host Three Rivers Community College at 7:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
