Reivers Defeat Roadrunners
Thursday, December 05, 2013
The seventh-ranked Iowa Western Community College Reivers from Council Bluffs defeated the Roadrunners by a score of 98-88 Dec. 3 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in a game that featured 12 lead changes and seven ties.
SFCC (9-4) jumped out to an early 12-5 lead. The Roadrunners pushed their advantage to 19-6 later in the half. The 13-point advantage was the largest for either team in the contest.
“We did some good things,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We built ourselves a nice lead to begin the game, scored the ball and got some defensive stops. Iowa Western is a good team, and they fought back and took the lead briefly in the first half. We came back and made a run in the last five minutes.”
SFCC led 49-38 at halftime. Iowa Western roared back in the second half, outscoring the Roadrunners 60-39 to seal the victory. Iowa Western out rebounded the Roadrunners 29-24 in the second half.
Freshman wing Kedar Edwards registered a double double with 27 points and 13 rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with five. Sophomore guard Kevin Punter contributed 20 points and four assists. Freshman guard Dondre Alexander added 16 points. Sophomore guard DeRon Hill pitched in with 11 points and dished out five assists. Sophomore center Isaac Freeman had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
SFCC will play in the John A. Logan Classic Dec. 14-15 in Carterville, Ill. The Roadrunners will take on Southeastern Illinois College on Saturday and the host John A. Logan College on Sunday.
